Does the Shopify Connector Cost Extra with Business Central?

Overview

This post breaks down what the Shopify connector costs when you run Business Central, and what sits outside the licence. It covers Business Central and Shopify subscription costs, the point where B2B selling changes the maths, and what configuration work involves.

Key Takeaways

  • Microsoft includes the Shopify Connector in Business Central at no additional licence cost. It is a standard extension, not a paid add-on.
  • You pay for Business Central user licences and your Shopify subscription separately. Those two costs exist whether or not you connect the systems.
  • Business Central UK list prices are £61.50 per user per month for Essentials and £84.60 for Premium.
  • Shopify UK plans run from £25 per month for Basic to roughly £1,800 for Plus.
  • B2B catalogue pricing needs Shopify Plus, which is the one requirement that materially changes the budget.

The Short Answer

No. The connector costs nothing extra.

Microsoft and Shopify built the integration together and shipped it inside Business Central in 2022. It arrives as a standard extension covered by your existing licence. Microsoft documentation confirms the app comes preinstalled for all new Business Central sign-ups and trials.

If you run an older tenant without it, you install the extension from Microsoft AppSource. That takes minutes and adds nothing to your bill. Because Microsoft maintains the code directly, you also get updates with each twice-yearly release wave at no charge.

This surprises people who have priced third-party middleware. Before 2022 you needed a paid connector or a bespoke build, so plenty of advice online still assumes that. Our post on Business Central and Shopify working together covers what the integration actually does.

What You Pay For: Business Central Licences

Your ERP licence is the first real cost, and you carry it regardless of Shopify.

Microsoft publishes UK list prices per named user, per month, billed annually and excluding VAT. Essentials costs £61.50 and covers finance, sales, purchasing, inventory and basic warehousing. Premium costs £84.60 and adds manufacturing and service management. Team Members licences sit at £6.20 for light users who only read data or approve documents.

One rule catches people out. You cannot mix Essentials and Premium across your users, so you buy one tier for everyone with full access. A retailer with six full users on Essentials pays roughly £4,430 a year before implementation.

Prices reflect Microsoft’s published UK figures as of September 2026. Microsoft raised list prices in November 2025, its first increase since 2018, so check current rates before you budget.

What You Pay For: Your Shopify Plan

Shopify bills separately and always has. The connector does not change your plan or your transaction fees.

UK plans in 2026 look like this on monthly billing. Basic costs £25, Grow costs £65 and Advanced costs £344. Annual billing cuts each by 25 percent, taking Basic to £19 and Advanced to £259. Shopify Plus starts at roughly £1,800 per month for enterprise operations.

Card processing sits on top through Shopify Payments. Rates fall as you move up the tiers, so your plan choice depends on sales volume rather than on the connector.

For most Tecvia clients, the Shopify plan is a small line next to the ERP licence. Grow at £49 a month on annual billing suits a lot of growing UK retailers.

Where B2B Selling Changes the Maths

Here is the one place the answer stops being simple.

The connector supports prices and discounts for product catalogues linked to companies and markets. That is how you serve trade customers with their own agreed pricing. Microsoft documents this feature as requiring a Shopify Plus subscription.

So a manufacturer or distributor selling to trade faces a real decision. Standard retail pricing works fine on Basic or Grow. Company-specific catalogue pricing pushes you to Plus, and that is a jump from tens of pounds a month to over a thousand.

Work out whether you need true B2B catalogues before you assume Plus. Some distributors handle trade pricing through customer price groups and a separate ordering process instead. We cover the wider setup in our guide to Shopify and Business Central integration for UK retailers.

What Configuration Actually Involves

The software is free. Setting it up correctly is the cost nobody advertises.

Configuration covers item and SKU mapping between the two systems, which locations feed published stock levels, and whether reserved quantities count toward availability. It also covers price group selection, tax treatment, order and payment posting, and error alerting when a sync fails.

Data quality drives the timeline more than the connector does. Duplicate customer records, inconsistent item numbering and legacy SKUs all need cleaning first. A retailer with tidy data and one storefront goes live in weeks. Multiple warehouses, currencies and bespoke pricing rules take longer.

Ask any partner to price configuration and data preparation as separate lines. If a quote bundles them into one figure, you cannot tell what you are buying. Our Business Central sales and ERP setup and Shopify development services cover both sides of that work.

Talk to Tecvia About Your Shopify Setup

You already have the connector. The question is whether it is configured to match how you actually sell.

Tecvia is a Microsoft Solutions Partner and a Shopify Partner, so one team scopes the ERP side and the storefront side together. We will tell you plainly if the standard connector covers your requirements, because most of the time it does.

FAQs

For anything not covered here, get in touch directly. We’re happy to answer questions specific to your business and your ERP requirements.

Yes. Microsoft includes the Shopify Connector as a standard extension covered by your Business Central licence. It comes preinstalled for new sign-ups and trials, and existing customers install it from Microsoft AppSource at no charge. You still pay your Business Central user licences and your Shopify subscription as normal.

Microsoft’s published UK list prices are £61.50 per user per month for Essentials and £84.60 for Premium, billed annually and excluding VAT. Team Members licences cost £6.20 per user per month for light users. You cannot mix Essentials and Premium licences across full users. Prices checked September 2026.

Not for standard retail selling. Basic, Grow and Advanced plans all work with the connector for products, stock, prices, orders and customers. Shopify Plus becomes necessary when you need B2B pricing for catalogues linked to companies and markets. Confirm your trade pricing requirements before budgeting for Plus.

The connector itself is free, so the cost is partner time for configuration and data preparation. A single storefront with clean data and one price list sits at the lower end. Multiple warehouses, currencies or bespoke pricing rules increase the work. Ask for configuration and data cleansing to be quoted as separate lines.

Rarely. The native connector covers items, stock across multiple locations, prices, orders and customer records for most UK retailers. Microsoft supports extension through event subscriptions and co-development where a genuine gap exists. Middleware is worth considering only when you are connecting several systems beyond these two.
