You pay per person, per month. It’s £61.50 for most people, £84.60 if you manufacture or run service operations, and £6.20 for anyone who just needs to look things up or approve them.

Manufacturing and service, the Premium-only capabilities
Manufacturing: agile manufacturing, basic capacity planning, basic supply planning, finite loading, machine centres, production bill of materials, production orders, sales and inventory forecasting, version management.
Service order management: planning and dispatching, service contract management, service item management, service order management, service price management.
Included at no extra cost with Essentials or Premium
- Up to three External Accountant licences per tenant, free, with the same rights as an assigned licence apart from user setup and admin tasks.
- Read-only access from Microsoft Teams for anyone in your business holding a Microsoft 365 licence, once your organisation holds at least one Business Central licence.
- Microsoft Copilot in Business Central, plus 30 minutes per tenant of Azure AI for other AI-powered features.
- 80 GB of database storage per tenant, accruing a further 3 GB per Essentials licence or 5 GB per Premium licence.
- One production environment and three sandbox environments.
- Unlimited Team Member access, and use of multiple companies.
A Premium base licence also qualifies for the reduced attach price on Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise, Customer Service Enterprise and Field Service. An Essentials base licence does not.

Business Central pricing questions
Business Central is licensed per user, per month. Essentials is £61.50, Premium is £84.60, and a Team Member licence is £6.20. These are Microsoft’s published UK list prices, billed annually and excluding VAT. Licences are one part of the cost: implementation, data migration and training are quoted separately.
Premium contains everything in Essentials and adds two things: manufacturing, which covers production orders, bills of materials, routings and capacity planning, and service order management, which covers service contracts, dispatching and service items. Nothing else differs between the two.
If you make things or run service operations, you need Premium. If you buy and sell without manufacturing, Essentials covers finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehousing and projects, and is what most distributors and wholesalers run on. Premium also unlocks a reduced attach price on Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise, Customer Service Enterprise and Field Service, which an Essentials base licence does not.
Not within the same company. Essentials and Premium can be deployed in separate environments on the same tenant, but each user can only access the environment their licence covers. A user with an Essentials licence cannot sign in to a company running the Premium experience.
A Team Member can read data across Business Central, update existing customer, vendor and item records, approve or reject workflow tasks assigned to them, create, edit and delete sales or purchase quotes, and edit job time sheets for approval. It is not a cut-down full licence, so anyone raising orders or posting transactions needs Essentials or Premium.
Up to three External Accountant licences per tenant, read-only access from Microsoft Teams for anyone holding a Microsoft 365 licence, Microsoft Copilot in Business Central, 80 GB of database storage, one production environment and three sandbox environments, and unlimited Team Member access.
Microsoft’s published list prices are per user per month but billed annually, and exclude VAT. Microsoft raised Business Central pricing in October 2025, so any figure quoted before then is out of date.
